Guimond Eventing

Looking forward to Virginia CIC**/Horse Trials

Heading to Virginia end of this Month and am excited to be moving my 6 year old Thoroughbred Mare to Intermediate.   I adopted this mare in January of 2016 from New Vocations as an entry in the retired race horse project only to be told that she was not eligible because she did not have a tattoo.   My original intend was to resell her but truth be told that I have enjoyed riding her so much and have never had a horse that is so honest and tries so hard.    Here are some pictures of her at Plantation Horse Trials rocking around a tough muddy and slick preliminary placing 2nd.

Victorious at Bromont CCI

I am proud to say we have returned home from Bromont International Horse Trials in Canada with a CCI* Champion!  Buster put in a great performance at his very first CCI to lead the division from start to finish!

I owe a big thank you to Matt Brown for shipping Buster up to Canada for me. He was a lot happier having a buddy for the long drive up and was very comfortable with the air-ride equipped trailer. We arrived on Monday, which gave him plenty of time to settle in before his dressage test on Thursday.  I was also fortunate to have great help and support over the weekend as well. Thank you to Mikaela Kantorowski  for keeping him happy and making him look perfect all weekend!

Buster was one of the first horses in the ring that morning but put in a solid test to earn a 38.4, the lowest score of the entire competition. I was very happy with his test. The cross country track looked very challenging but I thought it suited him well. I knew if I got through #5, it’d be smooth sailing to the finish. He handled the track with ease and I was also very happy with his fitness level. He recovered very quickly and was very fresh the next morning. I had one rail in hand going into the show jumping and used it on the very last fence. He was jumping incredibly well and unfortunately started my celebrations moments too early.

Anyways, we are all incredibly proud of Buster and owe a huge thank you to all who have helped achieve this accomplishment, especially Jennie Brannigan, Sally Cousins and to Boyd Martin for finding Buster for me. He is now enjoying a well deserved vacation!

Results from The Fork

Guimond Eventing

We had a great weekend at the Fork Farm and Stables in North Carolina.  Beau entered both Filibuster and Otter in the CIC1* division.   Otter was returning to the CIC level after taking the winter off and it was Filibuster St first CIC*1.  Beau has spent the winter at Full Gallop and has been working hard with Sally Cousins in preparation for heading to Bromont CCI Three Day Event in June.

Beau started the dressage portion sitting in 3rd on Buster and 9th on Otter.  Both horses put in solid tests and the division was highly competitive with just a few points separating the leaders.

Show jumping proved to be tight on time when Filibuster picked up a clear round with just 1 time penalty moving him to second place.  Otter had rails and moved to 13th overall.

The cross country course looked great and time was influential. Beau took Otter round first producing a clear go inside the time finishing 11th overall.  Filibuster had a solid ride for his first CIC* and finished well inside the optimum time.  It was an exciting finish with the leader picking up .80 time faults and stayed on top by a half a percent.

Beau was extremely pleased with both horses and is excited to be planning on heading the Bromont CCI Three Day Event in June.  All the top horse and rider combinations in the country will be attending this event in the hopes of capturing the title.  Beau has been fortunate to have gone round the Bromont track before and knows that both horse and rider have to be at the top of conditioning and training to tackle the demanding course.

Thanks to Full Gallop for putting on a great starter trial! Can’t say enough how beneficial it is for horses, riders and owners to have this level of show available.  Buster was entered in the combined test at Preliminary level – this was a prep for Pine Top next weekend to ride the dressage test and practice show jumping without the wear and tear of cross country. Eleganze is entered into Pine Top next weekend and had a great round winning at training division.
Starter trials are perfect for introducing horses to the sport of eventing. Go Big or Go home, barn name Scottie,  is new to eventing and put a solid test in at novice level. He is a big jumper and will only improve as the levels go up. Both Sorrentina and Nancy are 4 year old OTTB that have 30 days training and this was their first event. Sorrentina is our entry into the Retire Racehorse Project and had a great start. She has three fantastic gaits, an amazing mind, willing attitude and will progress quickly through the levels. Nancy is a flashy chestnut mare with classic movement and each time she goes out is quickly learning the ropes. Zips Irish Leaguer, 7 year old Appendix sales prospect, put forth a fantastic effort at his first event placing 3rd in a very competitive beginner novice class.
Special thanks to Alissa Audley for grooming and keeping things running smoothly!
